Is it okay to fill an espresso machine with milk instead of water?

April 5th, 2009
Coffee Jerk asked:

If I fill the water compartment of my espresso machine with milk instead of water will it clog/ruin the machine?

I’m not talking about the frother, which is used to frothe milk. I’m talking about the water compartment that you put water in, which makes steam, which makes espresso. Anyone who’s ever owned an espresso machine will know what I’m talking about. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
has anyone actually done it?

Brad

espresso machine damaged by vinegar?

March 31st, 2009
merle walters asked:

Our espresso machine was cleaned with white wine vinegar(rather than plain white vinegar)and now it barely sputters to a finish, even after twenty minutes.I’m afraid the sugars in the wine vinegar gunked up the machine internals. Is there any validity to this worry and,if so,is there any way to remedy this?
update:I couldn’t find a specific cleaner so I just used 1 part white vinegar to 6 parts distilled water, and that worked perfectly. The machine is now running as before. Thanks for your help.

Where can I rent an espresso machine from in Southern California?

March 13th, 2009
Nikki M asked:

I’m having an espresso bar at my wedding and want to rent an espresso machine just for a day or two. The only place I could find wanted to send a barista with it, which of course would cost more. I already have a barista lined up to do it, but can’t find a place to get the espresso machine from. Thanks!

I just want to make a latte like I get at coffee shops. I’m assuming just hot milk will do in place of steamed milk? But alot of the machines I see are….confusing. Whats the best machine I can buy while still staying wallet friendly?

Used commercial espresso machine- what to look for?

February 25th, 2009
linzed asked:

I found a used commercial espresso machine in some hillbilly mountain town for an absolute steal. It needs one part replaced and a good cleaning. I know how to work these kinds of machines, but i don’t know what to look for. I know I’m either going to have a great deal or a big hunk of metal sitting on my counter that I can’t get to work. What do i need to know before i buy this baby?

How much coffee ground for an espresso machine do I use in a drip machine?

February 18th, 2009
Roger C asked:

I bought some coffee that was pre-ground to a fine texture for espresso machines. How much should I use for my drip machine? Half of what I would use with a coarser grind?

Can you make a cappuccino in an espresso machine?

February 11th, 2009
thedespairfactor asked:

I was think of getting my sister a cappuccino machine, but it’s easier to find an espresso machine.

I found some are just for plain coffee, cappuccino, or espresso. Some you can make all three.

What do you think is my best option? She loves sweet, creamy coffee.

Jay
